“But let each man test his own work, and then he will take pride in himself and not in his neighbor” Galatians 6:4 (World English Bible). If I am focused on what God’s will is for me, what my husband calls “the next right step”, I do not have time to focus on what someone else is doing or not doing. This frees my mind from the stress of trying to control others’ lives.
It is wrong for me to compare myself to someone else because I am a unique creation. God created me, broke the mold, created another mold, made the next person, broke that mold, etc. I am Melonda, and the only Person Who knows for sure just what a Melonda is and does is God. I will have to listen to Him. He will tell me how to be the best me and equip me to do it. “Now may the God of peace, Who brought again from the dead the Great Shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen” Hebrews 13:20-21 (World English Bible).
Saint Paul reminds us that we are all parts of Christ’s body. Just like parts of our own bodies, all the parts of Christ’s body have different jobs to be done. “If the ear would say, ‘Because I’m not the eye, I’m not part of the body,’ it’s not therefore not part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be?” I Corinthians 12:16-17 (World English Bible). If I try to be a Mary, I will not be a success because I was not intended to be any Mary. If I do not do ME, there will be a job that God needs done that will not be done. Plus, if I mope around whining that I am not like someone else, I will just be miserable and not get any of the blessings that God has prepared especially for only me.
I have experienced moments of God’s Peace. When I did, it was because I was perfectly in the middle of God’s will for me as I knew it. I sincerely want to feel that peace every day as uninterruptedly as possible. That would be success for me: being engulfed in God’s peace.
We have all heard the Prayer of Saint Francis’ first line, “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.” When a musical instrument is touched by someone, a certain noise is produced. How would it be if God’s Peace came out whenever God or anyone else touched one of us?
I can achieve this state of extreme Peace by following the instructions God gave to Joshua. “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success” Joshua 1:8 (World English Bible). I will meditate on God’s Word and obey it. Then I will have access to God’s perfect Peace. I will be successful.
